St. Jude Hospital

Emergency: call 911 or come directly

About Us

Built on care, resilience, and community trust.

Who We Are

St. Jude Hospital is a 24-hour specialty, emergency, and primary care hospital serving southern Saint Lucia. We are a statutory body of the Government of Saint Lucia, governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Health, and located in Augier, Vieux Fort.

We are the southern pillar of Saint Lucia’s public healthcare system. Every day, our teams provide emergency care, specialty and primary care, maternity and delivery services, surgery, dialysis, physiotherapy, and the diagnostic and clinical support that holds it all together. We serve everyone who walks through our doors, without exception.

Our Story

St. Jude Hospital was formally opened on 5 September 1966 by Mother Mary Irma Hilger and the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, as a charity hospital providing care without charge. It began in a former military hospital in Vieux Fort — a building that stood abandoned for nearly two decades until the Sisters recognised what it could become.

Management passed to the Government of Saint Lucia in 1992, and the St. Jude Hospital Act of 2003 established the independent Board of Directors that governs the institution today. A fire destroyed much of the hospital in September 2009, and staff carried the hospital through more than a decade of service from the George Odlum Stadium. In 2025 and 2026 the hospital returned to a permanent campus at Augier.

What We Stand For

Our Mission

St. Jude Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality service to our patients, benchmarked against internationally recognised standards, in a safe, friendly, and caring environment. We provide individual, patient-centred care to every patient and family, and we work to build a workforce that is efficient, effective, and connected — through education, motivation, and encouragement.

Our Vision
To be a healthcare provider of excellence.

What we stand for

Our values

Seven values guide the way we work. They shape how our staff care for patients, how our teams treat one another, and how we hold ourselves accountable to the community we serve.

Patient and family-centred care

Patient and family-centred care

We treat the whole person, not only the condition. Patients and their families are partners in planning care, and we make sure nobody is left to work it out alone.

Patients’ rights

Patients’ rights

Every patient in our care knows their rights, and every member of staff upholds them. Privacy and confidentiality are protected at every step.

Safety and quality

Safety and quality

We work to established procedures and international best practice, and we monitor and evaluate continuously so the standard of care holds up.

Professionalism

Professionalism

Skill, judgement, integrity and competence in every role — with evidence-based practice and equal care for everyone, whatever their circumstances.

Collaboration and partnerships

Collaboration and partnerships

We build lasting relationships for training, service delivery and shared resources, and we take our responsibility to the community seriously.

Hope and optimism

Hope and optimism

We meet patients and families with empathy, support them to expect the best possible outcome, and make clear what care is available and how to reach it.

Leadership

Leadership

We lead with respect, fairness and honesty, and we recognise and nurture leadership at every level of the hospital.

Our Role in the South

Southern Saint Lucia depends on St. Jude Hospital. We are the region’s major public hospital and the emergency healthcare institution nearest to Hewanorra International Airport. Our responsibility spans routine primary care and the most urgent moments in a family’s life — and everything in between.

We take that responsibility seriously. We are here around the clock, for every patient, every family, every day.
