Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation help patients improve movement, strength, function and independence after illness, injury, surgery or a long-term condition.

Three steps to physiotherapy care

1

Get a referral or appointment

A doctor, clinic, ward or approved care pathway may refer you for physiotherapy. Contact the department if you need to confirm whether a referral is required for your visit.
2

Prepare for your assessment

Wear comfortable clothing and bring referral information, relevant imaging or reports, your medication list and any braces, splints, crutches or walking aids you use.
3

Follow your rehabilitation plan

Attend scheduled sessions and follow the exercises, mobility advice and home programme provided by your physiotherapist.

Visit Information

Before your visit

Bring your referral or appointment information, comfortable clothing, recent reports or imaging relevant to the problem, and any mobility or support equipment you normally use.

On arrival

Your physiotherapist will assess movement, pain, strength, function, mobility and your recovery goals before developing or updating the treatment plan.

During your visit

Treatment may include therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, mobility and balance training, pain-management strategies, post-operative rehabilitation and education.

Urgent or safety advice

Tell your therapist about new pain, falls, dizziness or changes in your condition. For sudden severe symptoms or another medical emergency, call 911 or go to the Emergency Room.
