Emergency: call 911 or come directly

George Odlum Stadium

Surgery and Operating Theatre

Surgical Services provide planned and emergency operations, anaesthesia, perioperative care and immediate post-operative recovery. Access to planned surgery follows surgical assessment and scheduling.

Three steps for planned surgical care

1

Complete surgical assessment

A surgeon or hospital clinician will assess whether surgery is appropriate and arrange the investigations, consultations and scheduling needed before the procedure.
2

Follow your pre-operative instructions

Follow instructions about fasting, medicines, test results, consent, arrival time and what to bring. If any instruction is unclear, contact the surgical team before the procedure day.
3

Complete recovery and follow-up

After surgery, follow wound-care, medication, activity and follow-up instructions. Return for the scheduled review or seek help sooner if warning signs develop.

Visit Information

Before your visit

Bring identification, your medication and allergy information, relevant test results and any pre-operative documents. Follow the fasting and medication instructions exactly as given by the surgical and anaesthesia teams.

On arrival

Staff will verify your identity, planned procedure, consent, fasting status and other safety information before surgery. Repeated safety checks are a normal part of surgical care.

During your visit

Care includes anaesthesia, the surgical procedure, continuous monitoring and immediate recovery. Depending on the procedure and your condition, you may return to a ward or be discharged with instructions.

Urgent or safety advice

After surgery, seek prompt medical advice for heavy bleeding, worsening pain, fever with concern, wound problems, breathing difficulty or another significant deterioration. Emergencies should go through the Emergency Room.
