St. Jude Hospital

Emergency: call 911 or come directly

George Odlum Stadium

Emergency Care

The Emergency Room at St. Jude Hospital provides 24-hour assessment, stabilisation and treatment for urgent and life-threatening conditions. If you have a medical emergency, call 911 or come directly to the Emergency Room.

Three steps when you need emergency care

1

Call 911 or come straight in

For a serious injury, chest pain, difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms, heavy bleeding, collapse or another emergency, call 911 or come directly to the Emergency Room.
2

Register on arrival

Give your name, contact details, identification and any medical information you have to the registration team. If you cannot provide the information yourself, a relative or companion can assist.
3

Be assessed by the triage nurse

A triage nurse will assess how urgent your condition is. Patients with the most serious conditions are treated first, so the order of care may differ from the order of arrival.

Visit Information

Before your visit

If it is safe to do so, bring identification, a list of your medicines and allergies, and any recent test results. Never delay emergency care to collect documents.

On arrival

You will be registered and triaged. Waiting time depends on clinical urgency and can change as new emergency patients arrive.

During your visit

The emergency team may provide treatment, medicines, laboratory tests or imaging, observe you, admit you to hospital, or arrange transfer depending on your condition.

Urgent or safety advice

If your pain, breathing, bleeding, weakness, confusion or other symptoms worsen while you are waiting, tell a member of staff immediately.

Emergency services may include

  • Emergency triage and assessment
  • Resuscitation and stabilisation
  • Urgent medical and trauma care
  • Emergency diagnostics and imaging coordination
