Gynaecology

Gynaecology services provide assessment, treatment and follow-up for women's reproductive and gynaecological health needs, including outpatient review, inpatient care and care around gynaecological procedures.

Three steps to gynaecology care

1

Arrange the appropriate review

Gynaecology care may begin through a referral, an outpatient or specialist clinic appointment, the Emergency Room, or another hospital service depending on the reason for care.
2

Confirm your clinic date and preparation

For scheduled care, confirm the appointment time and ask whether you need laboratory tests, imaging or other preparation before the visit.
3

Bring relevant health information

Bring identification, a medication list, previous gynaecology or surgery information, and any recent test or imaging results related to the problem being reviewed.

Visit Information

Before your visit

If you have been referred, bring the referral and any investigations already completed. Tell the team about medicines, allergies, pregnancy possibility and previous gynaecological procedures or surgery.

On arrival

Register at the clinic or receiving service. Staff will confirm your identity, reason for attendance and the clinician or care area you need.

During your visit

Care may include consultation, examination, investigations, treatment planning, medication, follow-up, admission or preparation for a gynaecological procedure when required.

Urgent or safety advice

For heavy bleeding, severe or rapidly worsening pelvic or abdominal pain, collapse or fainting, or another urgent deterioration, go to the Emergency Room rather than waiting for a clinic appointment.

Gynaecology services may include

  • Gynaecology consultation and assessment
  • Management of acute and chronic gynaecological conditions
  • Investigation and follow-up
  • Pre-operative and post-operative gynaecology care
  • Inpatient gynaecology care when required
  • Contraception counselling and follow-up
  • Emergency gynaecology assessment through the hospital emergency pathway
