Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging

Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging provide X-ray, ultrasound, CT and other approved imaging services to support diagnosis, treatment and monitoring for emergency, inpatient and outpatient care.

Three steps for diagnostic imaging

1

Get an imaging request

Imaging is performed from a request or order from an authorised clinician or care service. Bring the request or make sure the electronic request has been placed.
2

Confirm your appointment and preparation

For scheduled imaging, confirm the date, time and preparation instructions. Some examinations require fasting, a full bladder, contrast preparation or other steps.
3

Attend with relevant information

Bring identification and any previous imaging or reports that may help the radiology team compare findings.

Visit Information

Before your visit

Tell staff before the examination if you may be pregnant, have kidney disease, have an implant or device, have important allergies, or have had a previous reaction to imaging contrast.

On arrival

Register with Radiology and follow the preparation and clothing instructions for your examination. Staff will confirm your identity and the requested study before imaging begins.

During your visit

A radiographer or sonographer will explain positioning and what you need to do during the examination. Some studies take longer or require contrast depending on the clinical request.

Urgent or safety advice

Urgent and emergency imaging is arranged according to clinical priority. If you have an emergency medical condition, go to the Emergency Room rather than presenting to Radiology without clinical assessment.

Diagnostic imaging services include

  • General radiography (X-ray)
  • Ultrasound
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Mammography through approved referral pathways
  • Urgent and emergency imaging
  • Pre-operative and post-operative imaging support
