Laboratory Services support diagnosis, treatment and monitoring through specimen collection and diagnostic testing for hospital patients and referred outpatients.

Three steps for laboratory testing

Confirm your test request

Bring the laboratory request or order provided by your doctor, clinic or hospital team. If you are unsure what is required, contact the Laboratory before travelling.

Check preparation instructions

Some tests require fasting, specific timing, medication instructions or a sample collected at home. Follow the instructions given for your test.

Attend specimen collection

Bring identification and the test request. Staff will confirm your identity and guide you through blood collection or other specimen requirements.

Before your visit

Bring identification and your laboratory request. Follow any fasting, timing, medication or home-collection instructions you were given.

On arrival

Staff will confirm your identity and the requested tests before collecting or receiving the specimen. Correct identification and labelling are essential for safe results.

During your visit

The laboratory team collects or receives the specimen and processes the tests requested. Ask how your results will be returned to the doctor or clinic that ordered them.

Urgent or safety advice

Tell staff immediately if you feel faint, dizzy or unwell during or after specimen collection. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the Emergency Room.
