Emergency: call 911 or come directly

George Odlum Stadium

Paediatric Services

Paediatric Services provide hospital care for infants, children and adolescents, including inpatient treatment, urgent assessment, diagnostic coordination and family-centred care.

Three steps for paediatric care

1

Use the right care pathway

For an emergency, call 911 or go directly to the Emergency Room. Routine and follow-up paediatric care may be arranged through the outpatient or referral pathway.
2

Bring your child's key information

Bring identification, immunisation information, current medicines, allergy information, clinic notes and recent test results where available.
3

Stay involved in the care plan

Parents and guardians are important partners in paediatric care. Share changes you have noticed, ask questions and follow the treatment and follow-up instructions given by the team.

Visit Information

Before your visit

Note the child’s symptoms, when they started, medicines already given, allergies and any changes in feeding, breathing, activity or urination.

On arrival

The child will be registered and assessed through the appropriate clinical pathway. Children requiring inpatient care are admitted to the Paediatric Ward based on clinical need.

During your visit

The team may provide treatment, medicines, monitoring, diagnostic tests, specialist consultation, observation or admission. Families are kept involved in care and discharge planning.

Urgent or safety advice

Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing, seizures, blue lips, severe dehydration, unusual drowsiness, collapse or another serious or rapidly worsening condition.

Paediatric services may include

  • 24-hour paediatric inpatient nursing care
  • Medical evaluation and treatment
  • Medication administration and monitoring
  • Laboratory and imaging coordination
  • Care for acute and chronic childhood conditions
  • Family-centred education and support
  • Discharge planning and follow-up coordination
