Inpatient Care

Inpatient Care is for patients who need to stay in hospital for treatment, monitoring, recovery or further investigation. Adult inpatient care is provided through the Medical and Surgical Wards.

Three steps for hospital admission

1

A clinician decides that admission is needed

Admission follows clinical assessment through the Emergency Room, a clinic, surgery, transfer or another hospital care pathway when you need inpatient treatment or monitoring.
2

Complete admission and identification checks

Provide identification, contact details, next-of-kin information and any coverage or financial information requested for the admission process.
3

Move to the assigned ward

The nursing team will settle you into the ward, confirm medicines and allergies, complete safety checks, and explain how care and communication will work during your stay.

Visit Information

Before your visit

If the admission is planned, bring identification, your current medicines or medication list, allergy information, recent test results and essential personal items. Leave valuables at home where possible.

On arrival

Your team will confirm your identity, complete admission assessments and explain the plan of care. Bed placement is based on clinical need and available capacity.

During your visit

Medical and nursing teams review your condition, provide treatment and monitoring, coordinate tests and allied-health care, and begin discharge planning early in your stay.

Urgent or safety advice

Tell the ward team immediately if you develop new or worsening pain, breathing problems, bleeding, confusion, weakness or another sudden change in your condition.
